Central Coast Woodturners is a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) and serves woodturners in the coastal areas in the middle of California. The current membership includes turners from as far South as Santa Ynez and as far North as San Ardo. Inland, our group reaches into Paso Robles and San Miguel.
Central Coast Woodturners is for woodturners or people interested in woodturning who would like to get together with like-minded people regularly. If this describes you, you are cordially invited to attend our meetings and become a part of this group! Woodturners seeking more information about the group can contact us at gngpaes@charter.net
We endeavor to:
We have "Show and Tell" and "Challenge Project" presentations of attendees' work at each meeting. Both the "Show and Tell" and "Project Challenge" activities are for everybody, not just the very experienced turners. If you come to the meeting, feel free to bring your work and share!
Central Coast Woodturners is affiliated with the American Association of Woodturners. We became an official AAW local chapter in September 1991.
You do NOT have to be an AAW member to join our group, but we encourage our members to join the organization.
Central Coast Woodturners is a registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit.

On March 27th 1990 a letter was mailed to several people who responded to notes in such Items as NEW TIMES, SUN and few announcements on radio regarding the first meeting of what would eventually become the CENTRAL COAST WOODTURNERS group. A pdf version of this original announcement, along with a proposed meeting agenda, is posted on our newsletter page.
Remember, back then this was written on a typewriter and mailed using a postage stamp and delivered by the USPS.
The first two meetings were held at the Library in Arroyo Grande. Due to some restrictions, we moved to the Mussel Senior Center in Santa Maria. We met there for several years and enjoyed the service that the members provided. A typed newsletter was delivered to them. They in turn made the needed number of copies, folded them, enclosed them and mailed them at NO COST to CCW. Then the city cut down on some of its funding and asked for a substantial increase in rent, so we moved.
We held meetings in the second story conference room at the RaboBank in Arroyo Grande, but the stairs proved difficult for a great many members. We also could not make any chips or sawdust at this location. We then moved to a great private workshop in Los Osos for a few years, but ownership of that property changed and we found ourselves moving again.
We finally arrived ourselves at our current location, the Odd Fellows Hall in downtown San Luis Obispo, where we plan to stay.
CCW was officially certified as a Chapter of American Association of Woodturners on September 12th, 1991 and has continued since.
